I’m tempted to say democracy guarantees socialism. Yes he can't seem to get people to rally behind him and actually do something productive, like cut spending or heaven forbid raise taxes to pay for the mountain of social programs here, but he is sort of bound by democracy. The problem is that most people are F-ing stupid and want a lot of free stuff. He says we need to raise taxes to pay for stuff, and it gets voted down. Then he says we need to cut spending then, and he gets lynched by the media and people hate him more. Short of adopting the U.P. staragety of saying "everyone gets everything for free" there isn't anything that people want to hear.
