No Such Thing As A Free Lunch

16 Feb 2009 In: liberal myths

There is that growing debate about whether or not healthcare in this country should stay privatized or become free taxpayer-funded under the government. Hold up – before you stop reading here’s the thing. The health insurance industry needs to be cleaned up. It’s not a free market like auto insurance. Plus there are regulations that put hospitals and doctors into situations where they are forced to provide healthcare and pick up the tab. These regulations need to be cleaned up because the money that has to be covered a). doesn’t grow on trees and b). only drives up the overall costs of healthcare.

Liberals always use Canada as their pinnacle example despite report after report on the data showing that Canadian healthcare and prescriptions are no where near the quality level as it in the US. But somehow people believe somehow this quality will remain once it is under the government’s management. I mean look at the Department of Education. CLEARY, education quality in public schools has gone up (snickers) since being managed at the federal and state levels. Man, wake up, people. The last thing we should do is socialize healthcare. Don’t believe me…here’s another viewpoint from Canada.

Just look at how people in those “nationalized” healthcare nations come to the US for major surgeries, or how citizens have to go through the courts in order to just get malignant cancer tumors removed, OR how nearly 60-70% of citizens in those countries are on the private system because the “nationalized” system sucks the big one. And the excuse of “well nobody should be without healthcare” doesn’t fly with me. First, healthcare is not a constitutional right. Second, we do have Medicare and Medicaid in the country that people can apply for if they cannot afford healthcare. Third, Medicare is on the verge of bankruptcy in 2012 due to its mismanagement, so do you honestly think the govt. will be manage the entire system responsibly? Fourth, if we hand over healthcare to the govt. what is there to stop them from mandating what we eat, smoke and drink?

These same “free” healthcare-loving liberals also support mandates on how restaurants prepare foods (anti-trans fats) but want the legalization of marijuana to happen even though it’s shown that marijuana causes more damage to your lungs and cancer risk than cigarettes. These same liberals support an open borders for illegal immigrants, when in fact many illegals use the emergency room at hospitals as their primary physician while leaving the bills unpaid (thus driving up the costs of healthcare). If you think the govt. is going to stand by just absorbing the costs of healthcare and do nothing, then you are being naive.

These are some likely effects of implementing a national healthcare system. They’ll either:

  • Reduce the quality of healthcare to save on costs (see image to below)
  • Increase taxes to cover the higher costs due to increased illnesses related to how badly people eat, drink and smoke
  • OR, they’ll start putting in regulations on citizens to force what they dictate as healthier lifestyles

Operation how to downsize medicare

All three of these scenarios I’m not in favor of. I’d also be willing to bet that the R&D on prescriptions and advances in healthcare technology/procedures will go down the tubes due to the increased federal-grant approval processes (because this is how research is funded when a private industry is reorganized under the govt.). The system definitely needs to be cleaned up so that people receive insurance AND that healthcare is dictated by medical professionals not insurance companies, but that doesn’t mean bureaucrats should be running the show either – that’s just shifting it to another can of worms. To me it’s like you’re sick of snowstorms but then you’re like “well, an ice storm wouldn’t be so bad instead of this” – Ummm, please….they both suck!

So thanks, but no thanks on that nationalized healthcare.

BIG TEST

Here’s a story that’s oh so cherishing the world of motherhood. Unfortunately it’s an issue a lot of women face – trying to balance having a career and having a family. And the folks in California seemed to be confused about this. If you’re unwed and unemployed you can apparently have all the babies you want (to then be supported by taxpayers) AND  be put on a pedestal as a victim of public scrutiny. But the audacity of a successful, career-driven woman who is married to a successful man and has the financial support to start a family at 22 – oh, that’s just something SOME Californians just cannot comprehend. Honestly, WTF!

This week WNBA star Candace Parker announced she was starting a family. You’d think this would be cause for celebration, but apparently there are some people who aren’t excited to throw the expecting mom a baby shower.

Parker probably figured the news would be non-controversial, given that the fresh-faced Los Angeles Sparks forward and Olympic gold medalist is happily married to Sacramento Kings forward Shelden Williams. Both earn more than enough to support a family: Parker alone reaps millions on and off the court as one of the most celebrated women athletes in the world.  But Parker’s pregnancy was not greeted with the same approval and tolerance that many of today’s child-bearing sexagenarians and single mothers by choice enjoy when they form their families. Instead, Parker was blasted by fans and pundits for becoming a mother at age 22. Critics bemoaned her selfishness in putting maternal ambitions ahead of her team’s 2009 season prospects. Others lamented her foolishness for starting a family when she should be living a strings-free existence oriented around her glamorous career.

Oh and here’s how her boss responded:

My first reaction was to just shake my head. We’re inured to this by now so I guess I thought. ‘Oh, yeah, she’s having a baby. Yeah, of course.”

Shaking your head – my guess in disappointment because who shakes their head in joy, really. Good grief, boss-lady, could you TONE IT DOWN on the support front. Geez. LOL.

Parker responded with the best comment possible. The fact she even has to comment on justifying her choice to start a family is what is ridiculous.

“The biggest thing for me is not a matter of if or when [I return] but of coming back with a good balance in my life.”

You know, I’m going through the same thing. Not to get to personal but I plan to start a family sometime this year or next, but this has been a hard decision. On one hand you don’t want to sacrifice your career but on the other you don’t want to sacrifice your family for a job. I think society is starting to put too much pressure on women that they have to try and be these super women – be the VP, be the super mommy, be in fabulous shape, be EVERYTHING. I think it’s getting to be too much on women. I’ve seen how in trying to do all of these things it affects women in the workplace. And women are discriminated against it every single fucking day. It pisses me off. I’ve seen a woman not get offered a job because there was the only the possibility she would get pregnant at some point. Even though that woman was the most qualified candidate. No I’m honestly not joking which is sad.  There should be nothing wrong with a woman deciding to have a baby at any point in her career. AND it shouldn’t be held against her to stay at home, out of the job market, if she chooses to for a few years. Only a small percentage of companies offer day care . The cost of daycare is outrageous and most of the time isn’t cost-effective when compared to the woman just staying at home or working part-time until the child is in school.

Since when did choosing to start a family become something both women and men (but especially women) must apologize for? Isn’t giving life one of the (if not the main) purposes of living? I can accept if somebody chooses not to have children OR waits until later to have children. But to vilify women for choosing to start their family when they have a stable family and career – grrr, I just don’t get it.  I thought two years ago I would start having kids for another five years, but then I started to realize that those five years means five years I don’t have with my children. And for what??? More time at work – ummm, thumbs freakin’ up! Please, work will always be there but time with your family will not. At the end of your life and you could take that time back, are you going to wish you had spent that time devoted more to your career or to more time with your family? I don’t think that question should be difficult to answer.

HotAir also makes an excellent double standard point:

No one seems to be making that argument about her husband, however, even though he plays the same sport for the NBA’s Kings, even though he can reasonably expect to take some time off for the birth.

Is a basketball game now more important than a family? What IF Parker is having one of the world’s next great leaders? What IF her child will find the next great cure or be the next great poet? Granted we don’t know what her child will be but the fact that some are putting the LA Sparks’ season on the shoulders of a mom-to-be is completely ludicrous.  And I bet it’s these same folks putting up a stink that also say they’re for “women’s rights.” Riiight, whatever you need to tell yourself.

Yes, still fresh on the campaign’s site as it was on Nov. 3rd (via Black & Right). I hear the wheels on the bus in 1…2…3…

Funny how quickly things didn’t go according to plan.  How much you want to bet it is Bush’s fault TOO that Obama doesn’t know how to keep his own campaign promises.

Yes, this site is for real and freakin’ hilarious. Looks like girlfriend doesn’t have to worry about planning out her wardrobe for 2012 anymore.

Obamunism
Communists and Socialists and Marxists of America unite! We finally have a real president who holds our values dear. We support Obama because he wants to nationalize health care, take money from hard-working Americans to give to the poor, and make one class of people. Hooray for communism! Hooray for Obama! Hooray for Obamunism! (That whole democracy thing just wasn’t working out anyway.) So, if you are anti-Obama or anti-Democrat (or just totally in love with Obama’s Communism, Socialism, or Marxism…freak,) you want this shirt.

Honestly, when is Obama going to put Gibbs out of his misery. It’s so comical at this point how many circles Jake Tapper can run around Gibbs. Good grief – this guy has to be one of the worst Press Secretary’s ever. No doubt. He’s like the Barney Fife of Press Wranglers.

Here’s the latest round of the Tapper/Gibbs sideshow.

TAPPER: I’m not questioning that, but it seems to me like there’s some sort of disconnect between the president urging constituents to lobby their congressmen. This has been one of the problems that’s –

GIBBS: I can’t speak to — I can’t speak to what the — what the congressman said or saw from different employees, because I didn’t hang out with them yesterday. I can simply speak to the benefits that economists that aren’t affiliated with this White House say the bill will do. Maybe some of those guys should call him, too.

Gees, Gibbs can’t speak to anything if you look at him exchanges with the press. Answer questions you buffoon – you’re the press secretary for a reason! This isn’t by far the first time.

(FYI – Trying the new polling feature out.)

Again, my favorite liberal contradiction is when the far left defend jihadist by saying they are really a peaceful and tolerant people. Tolerant if you are male and Muslim -that’s it. I mean here’s one CLEAR example of the tolerance via Ace:

(Koran. Surah 4:34) Men have authority over women because God has made the one superior to the other, and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because God has guarded them. As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them.

hotvalentine

(in my most sarcastic voice EVA) Uhh, can you feel the love. I’m really hoping Patrick says sweet nothings in my ear about being an obedient wife and keeping my trap shut. It would make him like the best husband eva!

Keep up supporting the tolerance, liberals! Way to represent women’s rights.  Also, can we qualify this as a LOVE FAIL?

Again, how dare we mere citizens hold our politicians to the promises they make on the campaign trail. When are we going to get it that it is just campaign rhetoric.  I know, what happened to the big question of “Just Words?”

“You, the public, will have five days to review any bill online and find out what’s in it before I sign it. So that you know what your government is doing.”

So riddle me this Messiah, if the porkulus bill goes up on Friday evening and you sign it into law on Tuesday morning (as proposed), how many full days is that exactly??? Are you telling me that this is NOT the era of Hope n’ Change that many (not including my kool-aid sober self) were led to believe in??? Gaaaaaaaaaaaasp! LOL.

“No more secrecy” my ass. HotAir also calls him out on this for the S-CHIP bill when he forgot about the timeframe for citizen review. But isn’t this the “people’s president,” as I so often heard him referred to as. Luckily, I never bought it – politicians say whatever they’ve got to in order to get your vote. Remember – Always! Be! Closing! Every politician does it – that’s why as voters we need to understand this and review voting records as well as past positions on issues. Not slap on a “Obama is My Homeboy” t-shirt, replay CNN clips 50 times, and drink yourself silly into a voting euphoria with a gallon of Kickin-Kiwi-Lime before going to the voting booth.

Here’s the vid to see what Barry is doing the back peddling on.

It’s Official….

13 Feb 2009 In: Government Spending Policy

I’m depressed. Via Ace

deficitproject

More on the article at WSJ.

The original economic theory behind this bill was to spend the money quickly to create jobs fast. But even the most talented spenders on Capitol Hill couldn’t find enough projects to fund in such a rush. So they spread out the largesse over several years — long after everyone hopes the recession is over. Some of these “timely” stimulus payments won’t hit the economy until after the 2016 Olympics.

Well, on the bright side – it is Friday. I’m off to get a cold drink and take my mind off of this crazy stuff.

Her and I have got a lot in common – female, young, loud-mouthed AND bucking the system, good-looking (that’s right, I’ve got an ego), articulate and oh, what’s that other thing. Oh yeah – knows how to use basic freakin’ common sense when it comes to economics.

Wish some of our representatives would get some instead of just relying on “the best economists around” according to Obama. Check the vid – love it that she interviews Obama supporters yet their ideal is different than the kool-aid man they voted into office.  Can anybody say – Told.You.So.???

But you know those Congressmen and women are too busy not reading the actual stimulus plan and showing real leadership by rushing votes so they can get back to planning trips to Italy.  Oh wait, at least one read the bill. Name that party – Republican. Heh, no big freakin’ surprise.  [Side rant: I'd be willing to be $1,000,000 (if I had it) that I read more of the stimulus bill than half of the people in Congress. And it's not even my job to do so - ridiculous.]

About The Un-Liberaled Woman

The ranting and raving of a woman formally brainwashed under the liberal agenda. Through investigation, commentary and sarcasm about government, this woman is breaking free of the hypocritical liberal party that tries to manipulate women into believing only they can represent women’s rights. Get informed, get free, get Un-Liberaled! This blog does not endorse any particular candidate or party - although if I did, I most likely wouldn’t endorse a liberal candidate. For instance, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) or as I like to call her Smancy Pelotox would not get my vote. Comprende? Good. Hope you enjoy the rants! :)
